WB: 19.05.25

This week, we have learnt about the polar continent of Antarctica.

We learnt about the climate, weather, wildlife and sights in Antarctica through the key text- The Emperor’s Egg.

The children created some fabulous penguin collages, wrote about the weather in Antarctica and why Antarctica is the coldest place on earth. πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ά

Another brilliant week in Robins, continuing our learning about the continent of Africa. Our focus text was Handa’s Surprise, a story which the children have loved.

We learnt about how to use describing words for the fruits in the story, printed beautiful material for Handa & Akeyo’s dresses, which were used in our class assembly and made stunning African masks. 🌍

This week, we have been learning about a tropical climate zone, specifically the continent of Africa. We explored the story Mama Panya’s Pancakes, a tale from Kenya which helped us to compare how the UK is different to another country.

We made Kenyan necklaces, tasted fruits from Africa, learnt a special hello song called ‘Jambo’ and explored different animals from Africa too. πŸ¦’πŸ˜πŸ¦“πŸ¦

The weather has really been on our side this week.

We have been learning about Earth Day and ways that we can care for our planet.

We learnt the new key words- North, South, equator, hemisphere, climate and oceans.

The equator indicates where climates around the world are tropical climates, places that are further away from the equator are polar climates and some are temperate climates. We learnt how to mix tropical, polar and temperate colours. 🌈


Spring Term 4 πŸŒˆ

We have had a lovely week learning about the special Christian celebration of Easter.

we visited St. Leonard’s Church where we shared the Easter story and we looked around the church looking for important symbols that Christians associate with Easter.

We made Easter cards, ate hot cross buns and identified important pictures and symbols of Easter.

This week we began by exploring our new word of the week- metamorphosis.

We learnt about the life cycle of a frog and observed real life frogspawn from Mrs Causebrook's pond. We have seen some tadpoles emerging from the jelly frogspawn and will continue to observe what happens over the coming weeks.

We also learnt about another animal's lifecycle and how they undergo metamorphosis- the butterfly.

Our sunflower seeds have begun to show roots and next week we will be planting them into compost and will continue to observe how they grow, documenting the sunflower's progress in our sunflower diary.

Spring has finally sprung in Robin Class. We have been on a spring walk around our village, had a visit from a lamb, that the children named Daisy and have also begun our own diary of how a sunflower grows.

We explored how plants can grow from seeds and bulbs and how seed and bulbs are similar and different to each other.

Our key text this week was The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle, telling the story of how a seed can disperse from a sunflower and follows the journey of its life cycle.

Each robin created their own greenhouse, so they can see what happens to the sunflower seed over the next few weeks. We can't wait to see what happens with our seeds!

Our learning this week began by exploring Northern Ireland and St. Patrick’s Day.

We learnt about their special flower, the shamrock and that the Giant’s Causeway is a very special feature of the country.

We also explored the country of Scotland, learning about the thistle, St. Andrew and we also tried some Scottish shortbread. It was delicious!

This week, we have moved on to learning about the Hindu spring festival of Holi, a celebration to show the start of spring and a festival of colours and love. ❀️

We have had a flipping lovely week, learning about Shrove Tuesday, also known as Pancake Day. We made pancakes, did pancake races, read and performed the story Mr. Wolf’s Pancakes, dressed up for World Book Day and just had a really great week!

This week, we have started to learn about some of the nations which make up the United Kingdom. We began the week by learning about England, we shared the story of George and the Dragon, and found out how Saint George came to be. We also explored the flower of England- the rose, before moving on to the country of Wales.

We learnt about St. David being the patron Saint of Wales and that his special day is celebrated on March the 1st.

We have painted daffodils, created Welsh leeks and have also written some beautiful daffodil poems. 🌼


Spring Term 3 🌈

We have learnt lots this week about who our Prime Minister is, where he works and also who our monarch is.

We have thought about some of the things that we would like to do if we were to become Prime Minister.

We really enjoyed the story- The King’s Pants. It really made us laugh and finished our week with some lovely Valentine’s Day learning. ❀️

What a brilliant week learning about the capital city of London.

We have been on adventures with the naughty bus and have learnt about the many famous landmarks in London. We also made hats from the story- The Queen’s Hat 🎩.

A superb week in Robins again, learning about nocturnal and diurnal animals.

the children have worked so hard on sorting animals our into whether they are night time or daytime animals.

We also carried our our big school birdwatch, identifying many different birds that visited us at school.

Our special story focus for the week was the ‘Owl Babies.’

Another busy week in Robin Class, continuing our learning about the season of winter.

We have explored our word of the week- habitat and also sorted animals into those that are nocturnal and diurnal. 
We have also identified the different habitats that we have in our country and animals that are native to us.

In Forest School, we have made bird feeders in preparation for our big school birdwatch next week.

Our learning is now centred on the season of winter. We have learnt about the weather changes, the signs of winter and also how water can changes states, from a liquid to a solid and gas.

The weather has been on our side, so we could go on a winter walk and use our 5 senses to identify what the winter time is like.

We hope you all had a wonderful time making lots of amazing memories with your families.

Our overarching topic in Robin Class this term is 'where are they?'

This topic provides the opportunity to further explore the seasons. The children will focus on the changes that take place during winter and how those changes impact both the environment around us and animals in the UK. The children will explore different animal habitats and how they are adapted. They will also look at London, its key landmarks and some famous faces that live there. They will explore some of the similarities and differences between where they live and the capital. The children will also be introduced to some events that mark new beginnings such as the Lunar New Year.


Autumn Term 2 πŸ‚

We have had such a busy week, with our Christmas nursery rhyme nativity, a trip to Warwick Arts Centre to see the Smeds and the Smoos and also learning about the celebration of Christmas.

We finished our term with a lovely day of festivities, wearing our Christmas jumpers, sharing a Christmas lunch together and even having a visit from Father Christmas!

Our focus this week has been on the Jewish celebration of Hanukkah.

We learnt about the special set of candles, called the menorah, which Jewish people light during Hanukkah. We made our own menorahs and also learnt about a game called the dreidel that Jewish people play during Hanukkah.

We have been learning about how people celebrate their birthdays around the world. 
We found out that people in Mexico have piñatas, people in China celebrate with a bowl of noodles and in Denmark, people make a cake man.

We then moved on to exploring advent and why people have the advent countdown to Christmas.

This week, we have been learning about the story of The Jolly Postman.

We have written letters, posted a letter in the village and also designed stamps for Mrs. Chevis to judge in both Preschool and Reception.

Our focus this week has been around different occupations.

We began by sharing some of the jobs that our Mummy’s and Daddy’s have.

We also learnt about the emergency service, where we exploring our fingerprints, labelled fire engines, made first aid kits and learnt about the 4th emergency service- coastguards.

We have enjoyed thinking about what we would like to be when we are older.

Welcome back Robins!

We have started our new term by learning about the Hindu celebration of Diwali.

We shared the story of Rama & Sita, made our own diva lamps, designed our own Mehndi patterns, made Diwali toast, learnt a Diwali song and used gymnastics ribbons to dance like fireworks!

A very busy week to end our first term in Robin Class.

We learnt about how some animals hibernate, migrate and adapt during the colder months of the year. We sorted animals into these groups and also created our own artwork to show our understanding of each of these groups.

We are all very proud of the children this half term and look forward to seeing them after the half term break.

What a wonderful week we have had, listening to and performing 3 wonderful harvest stories. We began with the story of The Little Red Hen, we then moved onto The Enormous Turnip and The Enormous Potato.

We have had lots of fun acting out each of these stories and also creating our own repeating patterns using potatoes as our stampers.

In our music time, we have learnt many autumn and harvest themed songs, our favourites being 'Big Red Combine Harvester' and 'Dingle Dangle Scarecrow.'

WB: 07.10.24

Our learning this week, has been focused on the changes that we are starting to notice outside, in terms of autumnal change.

We have created our own autumn alphabet, including the things that we can see and hear in the autumn. We have learnt how to mix the secondary colours- green, orange and purple using 2 primary colours mixed together.

On Wednesday, we went on an autumnal walk around the village looking for the colours of autumn. We collected sticks, leaves, acorns, cones and conkers which we have used to create beautiful autumn fairies and pixies.

The children have also learnt about how some trees lose their leaves during autumn- deciduous trees and some stay green all year round- evergreen trees.

Well done Robins! We have had a very busy week!

We have had another incredibly busy week in Robin Class. 

We have moved onto looking at homes and the types of homes that we live in.

We went for a local walk around the village looking for different types of homes and also identifying some of the features that make Priors Marston a village.

During our independent learning time, we built homes for the 3 Little Pigs, used shaving foam as cement to build houses with wooden blocks and also created our own mixed media representations of our homes.

This week, we have been learning all about how we are all individuals, looking at our names and how they are special to us, who is in our families and parts of our bodies.

Each of us used mirrors to help us with our self-portraits, which look amazing in the classroom.

To help us with learning that we are all individuals, we have learnt the new keywords- unique and individual.

This week, we have been learning about how to label and describe things in our Literacy sessions. We looked at a photo of Mrs. Causebrook and tried to label what we could see.

In Maths, we have been looking at the keywords- pair, match, same, similar, difference & exact. We have been able to sort pictures and objects according to different criteria, from colour, to shape and size.

In Art, we produced portraits of the teachers in Robin Class. They are fabulous!

Our learning has also taken us to learning about the importance of hand washing and why we need to wash our hands.

We have created our own germ artwork by blow painting paint using straws to create germs on an outline of our hands.

We also did an experiment on water, using pepper as the ‘germs’ and soap on Mrs. Causebrook’s finger. When she placed her finger on the top of the water, all of the pepper (germs) moved away, to show how soap kills germs.

We also explored what happens when we put a dirty hand and a thoroughly washed hand onto a slice of bread, which we are going to observe over the next week or so to see what happens.

Wow! What a super week we have had, learning about our school community.

We began our week by going on a walk around our school, exploring all of the different areas and people who work in our school community. 

We talked about our word of the week 'community' and what it means to us.

We were introduced to 5 of the monsters in the Monster Phonics family and the sounds that they make- Angry Red A, Green Froggy, Yellow I, Miss Oh No and U-Hoo.

We have had a fabulous first week in Robin Class. The children have been so happy and have settled in beautifully.

This week, we have spent time finding out about the classroom routines and where everything belongs. We have shared stories about starting school and have read the key texts- The Colour Monster, The Colour Monster Goes to School and Our Class is a family.

We are now ready to start exploring our overarching topic/theme for this term which is 'This is me!'

We will be learning about ourselves, the school community and the season of autumn.
