This week in Class 2 we have been busy making earthquake proof structures and testing them in a real earthquake! (Well, a jelly filled tray which wobbled a lot underneath our spaghetti and marshmallow towers!) We had a great time and were scored on our teamwork, behaviour, how strong our structure was on solid ground and how well it stood up in an earthquake. The children worked brilliantly together and it really helped them see the destructive ability of an earthquake on even the most stable structures.
In maths we have been looking at column addition of 4 and 5 digit numbers, money including decimals and then using this skill to solve word problems. Our work in literacy has included planning and writing a story based on the eruption of Mount Vesuvius on Pompeii in AD79. The children have all worked really hard and used lots of their knowledge of verbs and adjectives in previous weeks.
Please remember to send your payments, permission slips and lunch orders for our trip on December 3rd to St. John's Museum!
