Welcome back to our busiest half term of the year! The lead up to (shhh) Christmas (!) is always super busy at The Priors School and this year especially, we have a lot to look forward too; Class 2's trip to St. John's Museum to learn about a Victorian Christmas, KS1's Nativity performances, KS2's Christmas market and carols, theatre visits, Father Christmas, Mrs. Hookey's Christmas lunch, a trip to the Mandir and much more!
Our topic this half term is The Victorians - focusing especially on what life was like for Victorian children and a Victorian Christmas. We have spent time looking at Victorian child workers this week, learning about chimney sweeps, miners, factory workers, mudlarks and street sellers. Class 2 agreed they were glad to be at school instead of working in the 1840's!
In maths, we are looking at fractions and this week we have covered finding fractions of amounts (e.g. 1/3 of 12, 2/8 of 48, 7/9 of 108) and have been adding and subtracting fractions.
In literacy we have written diaries of Victorian chimney sweeps; the children wrote some fantastic pieces which really showed their knowledge of how these children lived and worked.
