Jaguar Land Rover Community Project

Jaguar Land Rover is a major investor in Corporate Social Responsibility as a key part of their overall approach to being a Responsible Business.

Jaguar Land Rover has a well-established community programme in the UK and is the only car manufacturer to achieve the highly regarded CommunityMark, awarded by UK’s Business in the Community (BiTC).

They encourage their employees to support team projects to make a positive difference in their local communities and develop team working, project management and other skills  outside their normal working environment.

They release employees for up to 2 days per year to support team community projects and to support education visits and events.

10,000 Jaguar Land Rover employees, a third of its UK workforce, donated over 115,000 hours on community volunteering in 2014

The Priors School has benefited significantly from this scheme, with 42 members of the Jaguar Land Rover team putting in a day's hard work transforming our school.

At the start of the project we worked with them to decide what key areas could be addressed and we chose:

*Refurbish the school portakabin, benefiting both the After School Club and the various lessons which are taught in it including music and individual SEN work.

*Produce a new school allotment, allowing us to further develop our work towards the RHS Campaign for School Gardening Award.

*Overhaul our Wildlife Garden, producing three distinct habits including a bog garden, arid area and bug hotel. These are used frequently in our science lessons and when taking advantage of outside learning spaces.

*Provide a friendship seating area for use by the children during breaks and at lunchtime.

*Establish a new school orchard, incorporating apple, cherry, damson & peach trees.

All of the children, parents and staff at The Priors School are hugely grateful for all the planning, hard work and commitment from the employees at Jaguar Land Rover; these projects have transformed our lovely little school into an even more wonderful place.

We would also like to thank the Parents Association for all the fundraising which made this project possible.
