Chair of Governors' Welcome

Education in the early years of a child’s life provides a vital basis for their intellectual, emotional and physical development and the degree to which they are prepared for the opportunities and challenges they will face in life.

The Staff and Governors of the Priors School are dedicated to providing an ideal environment for this development with an ethos based on the founding principles of the school.

Priors Marston C of E School was built in 1847 and two years later Earl Spencer entrusted the land and buildings to the village.  The original aim was to provide a secure, stimulating environment in which pupils would be happy, motivated and able to reach their full potential as both individual learners and confident, caring individuals.

This aim has been maintained throughout the School’s history; from the original inception, through a period under the management of the local authority, for fourteen years as an independent school administered as a charity and into our current status as one of the country’s first Free Schools.

As a small school we can offer an exceptional level of personal attention, enabling us to help all children develop according to their individual capabilities, whilst the culture of good behaviour and respect ensure the school is a happy and friendly place to be.

The Free School shares buildings and grounds and works closely with the Nursery which, together with our wrap-around care, enables us to offer our unique education throughout this vital early stage of a child’s development.

The school exists at the heart of the community with which it seeks to maximise links and utilise its environment to enrich both the education of its children and the life of the village.

We provide a broad and balanced curriculum that meets the interests, abilities and special needs of every individual pupil.  We also place great emphasis on children thinking independently, solving problems and developing self-esteem and confidence, which they do in a whole variety of ways, not least through their involvement in the many drama productions the school stages.

This website provides an insight into the life of the school and seeks to provide any information you might require.  If there is anything else you need to know, or would like to arrange a visit, please contact the school directly.
